Weekend trip to London

This weekend (1 to 5 June 2011) Patty and I were in London with Rainbow Tours, redeeming the first of our two daily-deal vouchers. We started in Burgdorf, after Patty had already done some serious celebrating at his sister's topping-out party (I popped by briefly too). Then we headed to the central bus station in Hanover, where we were picked up almost on time.

The bus journey takes about 13 hours, including a ferry crossing. So we were in London (a bit worn out) on Thursday morning. After a short city tour by Rainbow Tours, which Patty slept through almost entirely, we were allowed into our hotel room. We stayed at the Ramadan Hotel near Heathrow Airport, so the ride into the city took almost an hour each time, a bit long in our opinion, but at least the hotel was better than we'd expected.

On the first evening we wanted to do something chilled and went to see a musical. We chose "Chicago" (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chicago_(musical)), and the musical was really well done, beautifully performed and extremely entertaining, even after a night on the bus 🙂

The next day was all about shopping. We roamed the city centre again and visited all the important shopping temples. The Abercrombie & Fitch store was particularly impressive. From the outside you couldn't even tell it was a shop. When you go in, you're greeted by half-naked doormen, and inside the shop assistants dance to rather loud music. The whole store is very dark, a bit like a disco. Unfortunately the place is totally overcrowded and overpriced. But the stuff is cool 🙂

We also went to Camden Market, a huge market full of quirky T-shirts and odd objects. A truly amazing place. A clear recommendation for anyone travelling to London!!

On Saturday, our last day, we took on lots of the sights: we saw the Natural History Museum, Big Ben, Piccadilly Circus, Tower Bridge, Buckingham Palace, the London Eye, Westminster Abbey and much more. The city really has flair!! The trip was a blast…

Finally, I'd like to dispel a big prejudice: you can't get deep-fried Mars bars everywhere on the island after all. We actually had to search for quite a while. But we found one 🙂 And it was delicious…
