AIESEC conference

This weekend I attended my first Indian AIESEC conference. It was a local conference, which means that mainly people from LC Chennai took part. I decided to do the whole thing and "booked" from Thursday to Sunday.

The conference took place just outside Chennai on the ECR (East Coast Road, a highway running along the coast), in a beach house with a swimming pool right by the beach. Unfortunately beds were in short supply: for about 40 people there were five bedrooms, each with one double bed. But there were enough mattresses, so you could sleep outside or somewhere on the floor. Not that there was much sleeping anyway: the conference usually went on late into the evening (on the last day until 03:30), and then there was partying.

What impressed me most was the party culture of the Indian AIESEC members. On the last evening in particular, after the conference ended (so at half past three), they started downing beer, whisky and rum in large quantities. The party quickly got out of hand (I'll leave the rest to the reader's imagination), and after 30 minutes the first people started throwing up. I saw about ten people being sick that evening. We interns could only watch in amazement (speed isn't our strong point when it comes to drinking. At the boat race, an AIESEC drinking game, the interns lost without exception)…

Conclusion: an interesting weekend, but having had that experience once is quite enough…
